Meeting

The States Rights Gist Camp meets on the first Sunday of the month at 2:30 PM at the West Springs Community Center in West Springs, South Carolina. The center is located on Hwy 215 not far from the Union/Spartanburg County Line. Look for the SCV Logo sign and the ball field. We meet in the old school house behind the ball field. Meetings are over by 4:30 PM.

We have interesting speakers on a wide range of topics each month. If it is about early American history, the War Between the States, or is connected to either, you will find it covered at some point. From time to time we have period weaponry and artifacts on display.

We also have a short business session each month for planning and action purposes of the camp.

Our meetings are open to the public and you are invited to attend.

Come and join us.

“The Charge”

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee,
Commander General,
United Confederate Veterans,
New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906.

"If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision."

-- Major General Patrick Cleburne
