Sam Davis Christian Youth Camp

The States Rights Gist Camp is a long time supporter of the Sam Davis Christian Youth Camp (SDCYC). We have sent students and instructors over the years to immerse them in Southern history and culture not widely taught anymore.

The SDCYC is a weeklong summer camp situated in multiple states in the South where students can learn their factual history using both lectures and hands on projects while having lots of fun with activities including archery, swimming, canoeing, zip lining, riflery, climbing, period dancing, music, etc. A good time is had by all and it is not uncommon to see tears flow at the end of the week when new friends depart. All is done in a Christian centered setting with pastors and strong lay people overseeing all activities. The reader is encouraged to read about the original Sam Davis on our site. The young man was an extraordinary human being with qualities admired by friends and foes alike.

Class time with knowledgeable speakers on a wide range of topics takes place every day. You won’t see these topics covered in a typical school and the students learn American history to keep for their entire lives.

Fun time at the rifle range firing period weapons with bullets made by the students from actual battlefield lead.

The crowning event, the Ball, where students and faculty practice all week to dance period dances. A good time is had by all.

“The Charge”

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee,
Commander General,
United Confederate Veterans,
New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906.

"If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision."

-- Major General Patrick Cleburne
